Lebanese lawmakers to make another attempt at electing president

Lebanese lawmakers will be meeting on January 9th to elect a new president, France 24 via AFP reported on January 7th.

Lebanon, which is facing political and economic turmoil has not had a president for over two years as a result of hostilities between Hezbollah and its opponents.

Accused by critics of obstructing a parliamentary majority in a dozen previous attempts to elect a new head of state, Hezbollah has also lost its ally, Syria, following the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December.

According to analysts, there is no sign that the 13th attempt for a vote arranged for January 9th will be fruitful.
