Libya’s eastern parliament has approved a national reconciliation and transitional justice law, according to three lawmakers via Reuters, in an attempt to reunifying the country that has two separate and competing administrations.

House of representatives spokesperson Abdullah Belaihaq said on X that the legislation was passed on January 7th by a majority of the session’s attendees in Benghazi, Libya’s second largest city.

Implementation could be hard due Libya having administrations in both the east and west of the country. “I hope that it (the law) will be in effect all over the country and will not face any difficulty,” house member Abdulmenam Alorafi told Reuters by phone on January 8th.
