The US will redirect $95m in military aid from Egypt to Lebanon, in the latest attempt to bankroll the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) endeavours in securing southern Lebanon.

According to MiddleEastMonitor on January 7th, the funds are part of a wider strategy to ensure a lasting ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, as the LAF, as a hand of the Lebanese state, assumes control over Hezbollah territory and weaponry.

Washington called the LAF “a key partner” in defending against Hezbollah, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterating the need to support Beirut’s “legitimate security institutions” during talks.
