Assault on Chad’s presidential complex leaves 19 dead

At least 19 people have died after gunmen attacked Chad’s presidential complex in the capital of N’Djamena, according to France24 on January 8th.

The attackers were group of 24-strong commandos, 18 of which died in the ensuing firefight reported Chad’s government.

Allegedly part of the Boko Haram jihadist militia, who are fighting government forces in the western Lake Chad region, the assassins killed one security guard and injured three others.

Hours after, Chad’s Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah said: “the situation is completely under control…the destabilisation attempt was put down.”
