Egypt, Cyprus and Greece warn of instability after Assad overthrow
The rulers of Egypt, Cyprus and Greece called for a timeline for political transition in Syria on January 8th, citing fears that a delay could lead to further regional instability, according to The National News.
The tree had met for a summit in Cairo where they discussed the rapidly evolving situation in Syria following the toppling of President Bashar al-Assad on December 8th 2024.
Egypt, which has hosted more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees since the war broke out 14 years ago, strongly opposes Islamist governments in the region, which it views Syria’s new administration as, and expressed worry that Islamists may try to enter Egypt.
