Chad: Doubts over official narrative of presidential palace attack

Local sources in Chad have disputed the government’s account of the deadly incident at the presidential palace which saw 19 people killed, according to AfricaNews on January 10th.
Eyewitnesses claim the alleged armed mob that attempted to storm the palace were in fact not armed, with some describing the case as excessive use of force by the presidential guard.
The attack comes just days after parliamentary elections that saw President Mahamat Idriss Deby continue his presidency, an election that opposition groups criticised as a tool to consolidate power.
