Los Angeles wildfire damage costs estimated around $150bn
The scale of damage to Los Angeles, the second biggest city in the US, could be the costliest recorded history, according to an estimate by AccuWeather reported by Le Monde on January 11th.
The estimate suggests the price of damage caused by the LA wildfires could hit between $135 billion and $150 billion. The five separate fires have now far burned over 35,000 acres, 14,000 hectares, according to California’s fire agency.
At least 11 people have now been confirmed dead in the fires that have razed thousands of homes this week in a situation that outgoing president Joe Biden compared to a “war scene.”
