Provisional results show victory for Chad’s ruling party
Provisional results showed on January 12th that Chad’s ruling party won two-thirds of the seats in the legislative election which was boycotted by many in the opposition last month, strengthening president Mahamat Idriss Deby’s grip on power, Reuters reported.
Deby’s Patriotic Salvation Movement party secured 124 of the 188 seats at the national assembly with a participation rate of 51.56%, according to the national electoral body.
Opposition leader Succes Masra’s Transformateurs party and a number of others boycotted the election, saying it was skewed and lacked transparency, accusations denied by the government.
