Memo shows Mali enforcing gold seizure at Barrick site

A note to staff by mining company Barrick Gold reveals that the government of Mali have begun enforcing an order to seize stock at the company’s Loulo-Gounkoto site, reported Reuters on January 13th.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a company employee in Mali confirmed the authenticity of the letter seen by Reuters and added that it was sent to staff on January 12th.

“A provisional order to seize our existing gold stock was issued last week and the Malian government began its enforcement on January 11th” read the staff memo.
