Sources say Austrian woman kidnapped in Niger
An Austrian woman was kidnapped in Agadez in central Niger on January 11th, according to two Nigerien security sources via Reuters.
One of the two sources said she was bundled into a 4×4 in Agadez’s Fada district, which is situated on the edge of the Sahara desert. Austria’s European and international affairs ministry said its embassy responsible for Niger had been informed about the potential kidnapping.
It added that the embassy is in contact with partner countries and the EU delegation in addition to regional authorities on the ground. Niger’s interior ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
