Macron to visit Lebanon amid promise of French support
The office of Joseph Aoun, new president of Lebanon, said he met the French ambassador to Beirut on January 14th to discuss preparations for Macron’s visit on January 17th, reported RFI.
The trip follows Lebanon’s election of Aoun as president on January 9th, ending a two-year vacancy amid pressure from international powers including France, the country’s colonial ruler in the first half of the 20th century.
“The unwavering commitment of France to support Lebanon, its sovereignty and unity” would be highlighted during the visit, Macron’s office said.
