Morocco has begun a brutal campaign to kill three million dogs roaming its streets, with the recent awarding of the 2030 World Cup intensifying the culling.

According to In Defense of Animals on January 10th, Morocco’s government has used methods ranging from capturing them to kill them later, to openly poisoning them, or shooting them in the streets – although the organization’s claims are largely based on hearsay and social media posting rather than solid evidence Maghrebi.org has discovered.

While FIFA accepted Rabat’s claim that the slaughter had ended, the International Animal Welfare Protection Coalition emphasized, “Not only is the ongoing slaughter of the dogs happening, but it’s exacerbating as we’re moving closer to the final vote on the 2030 bid.”
