Nigeria admitted to BRICS as a partner country
BRICS chair Brazil says Nigeria has been admitted as a “partner country” of the bloc, according to ABC on January 18th.
BRICS was formed as BRIC by Brazil, Russia, India and China in 2009, with South Africa added in 2010, as a counterweight to G7 bloc of leading industrialised nations.
BRICS added Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates in 2024 while Indonesia joined this year. Saudi Arabia has been invited to join, and Turkey, Azerbaijan and Malaysia have formally applied to become members.
