Ceasefire between Israel and Hamas begins in Gaza
Palestinians celebrated in the streets and return to what was left of their bombed-out homes on January 19th, and Hamas released the first three hostages under a ceasefire agreement that halted the fighting in Gaza, reported Reuters.
Israel’s military said it was receiving the hostages, identified by the prime minister’s office as Romi Gonen, Doron Steinbrecher and Emily Damari. An Israeli official told Reuters the Red Cross said the hostages were in good health.
In the West Bank, occupied by Israel, buses were waiting for the release of Palestinians from Israeli jails. Hamas said the first group to be freed in exchange for the Israeli hostages includes 69 women and 21 teenage boys.
