Dramatic drop in migrants crossing from Tunisia into Europe

The number of undocumented migrants crossing into Europe from Tunisia has fallen dramatically, with Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni claiming credit.

According to Chinese outlet, Xinhuanet.com, there were only around 20,000 migrants in 2024, a huge 79% drop from the 97,000 reported in 2023.

While Tunisia said they had intercepted around 80,000 at sea, Meloni has insisted that it was her government’s work was ultimately responsible for the success, according to Euractiv.
