Morocco to invest tens of billions in railway and airports

Morocco is planning to invest $10bn in railway projects and $4bn in airport expansion, in the run up to its co-hosting of the soccer world cup with Spain and Portugal in 2030.

According to North Africa Post and Arabian Gulf Business Insight on January 24th, the North African kingdom is looking to overhaul its rail network, nearly doubling the number of connected cities to 43 by 2040.

The airport investments are focused on expanding existing airports, with Casablanca airport scaling up from 23.3 million passengers to 44 million annually, while a new terminal with capacity for four million will be built at the joint public and military airport of Rabat-Sale.
