Tunisian torture victims go to UN over domestic court failures

Six Tunisian torture victims have lodged complaints with the UN Committee against Torture over the failure of authorities to secure a single torture conviction in domestic courts.
According to The New Arab on January 23rd, special courts were assembled in Tunisia in 2018 tasked with reviewing alleged cases of torture by pre-2011 Arab revolution government, but not one trail has led to a conviction.
One victim, Rached Jaidane, who was jailed for over 10 years, said: “I want a formal apology from the state. That’s the important thing. I’m not seeking financial compensation.”
