Le Monde reported that 100 military vehicles arrived in Mali from Guinea on January 17th, just as the Russia’s defence ministry was intending to speed up the replacement of the private Wagner group with the state-run Africa Corps in the country.

The convoy of Russian equipment delivered to Mali is unprecedented in its scale, being the first time such a delivery had been made since the coup in 2021 which installed a pro-Russian government in the country.

The news comes as Russia restructures its presence in Africa, particularly following the toppling of ally Bashar al-Assad in Syria which has caused Russia to expand its military presence in Libya.
