France calls for end to Rwandan-backed offensive on DR Congo
France has condemned the actions of Rwanda after Kigali-backed rebels said they had taken control of Goma, the largest city in eastern DR Congo, on January 27th, reported RFI.
UN experts say between 3,000 4,000 troops and have been deployed and significant firepower including missiles and snipers provided by Rwanda to support the M23 group in fighting in DR Congo. M23 is a Tutsi rebel movement saying it wants to protect Congolese Tutsis.
The US and UK condemned on January 26th what they said was Rwanda’s support of the rebel advance. Kigali dismissed statements that “did not provide any solutions” and blamed DR Congo for the recent escalation.
