Franchises shutting down over Morocco’s retail crisis
Morocco’s retail sector is in dire straights as the hangover from COVID-19 continues to beleaguer the country’s consumers.
According to Telquel on January 16th, the declining customer purchasing power and the rise in franchise operating costs are to blame, with many retail franchises closing their shutters in city shopping centers.
Last year 33 percent of the 14, 245 businesses that filed for bankruptcy last year were in the retail sector, while Moroccan imports of clothing and knitwear have dropped by a third since 2019.
