Junta-led Sahel states meet to discuss exit from regional bloc

Foreign ministers from the Alliance of Sahel States met on January 26th to discuss formalities associated with their departure from regional bloc ECOWAS, reported Africa News.
The junta-led Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali are set to withdraw officially from the bloc of West African states on January 28th. At the meeting in Ouagadougou, they agreed to pursue a ‘global approach’ to negotiations and ties with ECOWAS within the framework of the grouping.
The countries announced their plans to leave the bloc a few months following the formalisation their own group, known by its French acronym AES.
