The chief of the Sudanese army general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan visited its strategic headquarters in central Khartoum on January 26th in his first appearance there since government forces said they broke a months-long siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, reported Reuters.

Burhan, accompanied by senior military leaders, complimented the “resilience and sacrifices” of soldiers who defended the army’s general command for 20 months, and vowed to “eradicate” the RSF and pursue its fighters “in every corner of Sudan.”

He also praised the army’s operations elsewhere in Sudan, including in Omdurman, Bahri, and El Fasher, where intense clashes have been reported in the last few days.
