Tunisians question the country’s high tax burden

Tunisians are questioning what the country’s high tax burden is actually paying for, given the lack of public services.
According to Washington-based newspaper Watan on January 26th, Tunisia’s tax burden is the highest in Africa, up at 33.5 percent in 2022.
Tax expert Anis Al-Wahabi says the Tunisian government now relies on tax revenues for 90.4 percent of its treasury funding as non-tax revenue sectors decline, including country’s major phosphate industry.
