New French PM Bayrou saves 4000 teaching jobs

The New French prime minister François Bayrou said 4,000 public teaching jobs would no longer be cut in the budget this year, reversing a plan by the last PM Michel Barnier, reported RFI on January 28th.
“It’s a way of saying ‘this is our priority’”, said Bayrou on LCI television on January 27th, discussing France’s national education system, and adding that it was a “definitive” decision to keep the 4,000 job postings.
His remarks precede the meeting of a joint committee on January 30th, involving lawmakers from both the lower and upper houses of parliament who are tasked with coming to a compromise on the disputed budget.
