Rubio tells Egypt of goal to topple Hamas in Gaza
New US secretary of state Marco Rubio told the foreign minister of Egypt in a call on January 29th that the US wants to stop Hamas ever governing Gaza again, according to the state department and reported by Reuters.
The call comes days after president Donald Trump suggested that Egypt and Jordan should take more Palestinians from Gaza into their countries.
Jordan and Egypt both pushed back over the weekend after comments. When Trump was asked if this was a temporary or long-term solution, Trump replied “could be either.”
