Spanish diplomats have been prevented from leaving their plane after they arrived in Moroccan occupied Western Sahara to speak with the pro-independence Sahrawi people.

According to left-wing Spanish outlet El Publico, the diplomats from the Basque region were held at Laayoune on January 28th, before being returned “immediately and without any explanation.”

It follows the expulsion a Publico journalist on January 19th, after he met with two pro-Sahrawi activists in the Moroccan occupied city of Dakhla, and attempted to make contact with Sahrawis living there.
