Tunisian president Kais Saied has announced the extension of the state of emergency imposed on his country till the end of 2025, enabling him to continue to wield exceptional powers.

According to the GOA Chronicle, the extension was announced on January 30th, and allowing Saied to continue carrying out home arrests, imposing curfews, prohibiting assemblies, and media censorship without permission from the judiciary, amongst others.

The announcement will be unsurprising to Tunisians, who have lived under the emergency laws since 2015, when an bomb attack was carried out on the presidential guard, killing 12, according to Middle East Monitor.
