The Palestinian Authority told the US that it is ready to “clash” with Hamas if is that is what is necessary to take power in the Gaza strip, during a pitch to president Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Middle East Eye reported on January 31st.

The plan was presented on January 28th to Steve Witkoff in a meeting in Riyadh by senior Palestinian official Hussein al-Sheikh, who is viewed as a possible successor to 89-year old Palestinian president Mohammad Abbas, a Palestinian source told the outlet.

The PA’s plan involves Gaza ruled by a committee whose majority is from outside of the strip. The meeting between Witkoff and Sheikh was facilitated by Saudi Arabia at the PA’s request, after Witkoff refused to meet in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, the source said.
