The man who is alleged to have tried to kill Salman Rushdie, leaving him with one eye blinded, will go on trial on February 4th for attempted murder, state court filings have said, according to AL-Monitor via AFP.

The American man of Lebanese descent, known as Hadi Matar, has also faced a separate charge by a federal court on suspicion of terrorism for allegedly carrying out the stabbing attack of 2022, on behalf of Hezbollah.

In August 2022, Rushdie lost his sense of sight in his right eye following the attack from the knife-bearing attacker. Jumping onto the stage at an arts gathering in New York State, the man stabbed Rushdie around 10 times.
