Italy blames poorly drafted ICC warrant for Libyan suspect release

The Italian government blamed its widely-condemned release of a Libyan war crimes suspect on the International Criminal Court (ICC), over a badly written arrest warrant, The New Arab via Reuters reported on February 6th.

The head of Libya’s judicial police, Osama Almasri Najim’s case has prompted a big political dispute for Italy’s hard-right government, with opposition parties urging Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to address parliament about the matter.

Justice Minister Carlo Nordio told parliament that Najim was detained on a warrant “characterised by inaccuracies, omissions, discrepancies and contradictory conclusions.”
