Clashes arise between Lebanese tribes and Syrian security forces
In northeastern border region of Lebanon, clashes have taken place between Syrian security forces and armed Lebanese tribesmen resulting in at least two Lebanese deaths, Asharq Al-Awsat reported on February 7th.
A number of people have also been captured by both parties. The clash has taken place a week after a failed tribal initiative which intended to obstruct the border to stop smuggling operations.
On February 6th, a rocket landed within the outskirts of the Lebanese border town of Al-Qasr, which is in the Bekaa region, after clashes took place inside Syrian territory. Lebanon’s national news agency reports that the incident was the consequence of continuous fighting in Hawik, Syria.
