Morocco has passed a strike law which could see violators fined as much as $20,000, amid an historic general protest by labour unions.
According to the BBC, the bill was approved on February 5th, with Moroccan prime minister hailing its enactment as a “great achievement”, providing major incentives for investors and international organisations to move to Morocco.
The National Union of Labour in Morocco argues the issues raised in the law have “gone beyond the logic of organization to the logic of prevention and restriction” and that the new rules will drastically curtail the effectiveness of any strike action.
