Tunisia’s opposition party Ennahdha has slammed the further jailing of their leader on February 5th, calling the case “nothing more than a political trial”.

According to Al-Jazeera, Ennahdha head Rached Ghannouchi was handed an additional 22 years in prison, after being sentenced to three years a week prior.

Ghannouchi’s charges, which his party derided as “a blatant assault on the independence and impartiality of the judiciary”, included receiving foreign contributions and plotting against state security.
