The Iraqi president, Abdul Latif Rashid, has taken legal action against Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani and Finance Minister Taif Sami Mohammed, in a bid to hold them accountable for the extended hold-ups in paying civil servant salaries in the country’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region, The National reported on February 10th.

Filed with the Federal Supreme Court on January 20th, the lawsuit was made public on February 9th.

The lawsuit shows the increasing friction between Baghdad and the Kurdish population as they have not managed to agree on a number of pending issues, such as giving up the oil industry to the federal authorities and restarting oil exports from the country’s Kurdish region.
