First Olympic Esports Games to be held in Saudi Arabia in 2027
In two years, the first Olympic Esports Games will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as part of a 12-year deal with Saudi Arabia signed in 2024, The Arab Weekly via Reuters reported on February 11th.
The IOC has been considering Esports for a number of years, creating a commission to search for opportunities to tap into younger people who participate in gaming.
But with its traditional audience age range increasing in years, the governing body is attempting to draw in a younger audience of future Olympic fans.
In a statement, IOC President Thomas Bach said: “There is now a very clear roadmap to the historic first-ever Olympic Esports Games.”
