Over 17 million Yeminis could face acute food insecurity, UN says

The United Nations has estimated that more than 17 million Yemeni people, the majority located in areas controlled by the Houthis, will experience acute food insecurity in 2025, a figure which amounts to half of Yemen’s population, Asharq Al-Awsat reported on February 11th.

In the “2025 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan” report which was released on February 8th, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said 17.1 million people, almost 49% of the country’s population will experience acute food insecurity in 2025.

The figure represents a drop in half a million people compared to last year, which was estimated to be  17.6 million.
