UN calls for former Niger leader to be released

The United Nations working group on arbitrary detention called for the immediate freeing of the former leader of Niger Mohamed Bazoum and his wife Hadiza on February 10th, reported Africa News.

Sine he was ousted in a coup back in July 2023, Bazoum and his wife have been cut off from all outside contact. They have been detained for 18 months in a wing of the presidential residence in capita Niamey, and only his doctor is allowed to visit him.
