Trump’s Gaza plan is a “serious crime” says Syrian president
Syria’s new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, has called Donald Trump’s takeover of Gaza plan “a serious crime that will ultimately fail,” in an interview with a UK podcast on February 10th, The New Arab via Reuters reported.
“I believe no power can drive people from their land. Many countries have tried to do it and they have all failed, especially during the recent war in Gaza over the past year and a half,” Â The Syrian president said.
Donald Trump said on February 9th that he wants to buy and own Gaza. “As far as us rebuilding it, we may give it to other states in the Middle East to build sections of it, other people may do it, through our auspices. But we’re committed to owning it, taking it, and making sure that Hamas doesn’t move back,” the US President added.
Ahmed al-Sharaa, who took over as Syria’s de facto leader following the toppling of the Assad regime, said that it would be neither “wise nor morally or politically right” for Trump to force Palestinians out of their land.
“Over 80 years of this conflict, all attempts to displace them have failed; those who left have regretted their decision. The Palestinian lesson that every generation has learned is the importance of holding on to their land,” Ahmed al-Sharaa added.
