Moroccan NGOs declare “day of rage” over Trump’s Gaza plan

Several Moroccan NGOs have called for “a day of rage” in response to Trump’s latest plan of displacing Palestinians and taking over the Gaza strip.
According to Middle East Monitor on February the 13th, the Moroccan Commission for Supporting the Nation’s Causes issued a statement yesterday urging Moroccans to mobilize in defence of Gaza.
“We are deeply concerned about Trump’s statements regarding the forced displacement of the Palestinian people from their land and turning it into a hell,” the commission said in a statement, adding that their concerns were shared by many in the Arab world and globally.
The NGO said Trump’s plan is a “violation of international law and a blatant US overreach against all legal and humanitarian principles.”
The Moroccan Initiative for Support and Solidarity also reacted to Trump’s earlier comments, calling for protest today with the rallying cry: “Palestine…All of Palestine belongs to the Palestinians”.
The call was also taken up by other organisations, including the Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine.
The Palestinian cause has always been a rallying cry for the Moroccans in a country where public dissent against the authorities carries much risk.
Yet, support for the Palestinian cause has become more dangerous ever since Morocco signed the Abrahams agreements with Israel, normalizing the relations between the two countries.
In December 2024, 13 pro-Palestine activists were sentenced to prison because of their participation in a rally in November 2023, in what the authorities deemed an “unauthorized protest”, per Morocco World News.
On many occasions, King Mohammed VI has repeated his support for the creation of a Palestinian State, alongside his “principled” commitment to the Palestinian cause.
While this has been substantiated by humanitarian aid to Gaza, many national NGOs call the Kingdom’s stance superficial, arguing that it weights little against the support offered with the normalization agreement.
This comes after rumours emerged alleging that Trump mentioned Morocco as a potential place to deport Palestinians according to his latest plan.
