Dozens killed in accident at illegal mine in Mali

Dozens of people, most of them women, have been killed after an illegal gold mine collapsed in western Mali on February 15th, reported Africa News.

Officials said those killed had climbed into the open-pit left by industrial miners in an attempt to find small pieces of gold.

Rescue operations continued well into the evening at the Bilali Koto mine as attempts were made to extract survivors by emergency services and volunteers.
