Western Sahara: First French official arrives in “historic” visit

A French official has made the first visit to the Moroccan held territory of Western Sahara following the country’s recognition of Rabat’s sovereignty over the contested region.
According to France24, France’s Culture Minister Rachida Dati visited on February 17th, calling the visit to the former Spanish colony “historic”.
While the United Nations considered Western Sahara a “non-self governing territory”, Morocco has rejected any independence proposals, opting instead to seek support from other international interests to further its annexation plan.
