The European Union is poised to suspend sanctions on Syria concerning energy, transport and reconstruction, according to a draft declaration seen by Reuters, The New Arab via Reuters reported on February 20th.

During a meeting in Brussels on February 24th, EU foreign ministers are expected to engage in talks about Syria.

The EU has a variety of sanctions on people and economic sectors in Syria. But European leaders started to reconsider their approach following Bashar al-Assad’s fall from power in December.

Last month, EU ministers agreed on a plan to moderate Syria sanctions, but the details were left to be negotiated.
