US absent at G20 talks in South Africa

US secretary of state Marco Rubio has boycotted the G20 meeting in South Africa after accusing the host nation of “anti-Americanism,” reported AP on February 19th.

“My job is to advance America’s national interests, not waste taxpayer money or coddle anti-Americanism,” Rubio wrote on X. President Trump recently signed an executive order stopping US aid and assistance to South Africa over a law that he says discriminates against white Afrikaners.

The order also described South Africa’s foreign policy as anti-American and criticised its ongoing case accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza at the United Nations’ top court, and what it claimed was the country’s closeness to the Chinese Communist Party.
