Sudanese army makes key gains following RSF militia charter

The Sudanese army said on February 23rd it had taken back control of the town of el-Gitaina from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and broken the group’s siege on the strategic city of el-Obeid to the west, reported Reuters.
Activists said three days of RSF attacks recently left over 200 dead near Gitaina, in White Nile state, which has emerged as a key battleground as the army regains territory in the centre of the country.
The army’s gains on February 23rd came hours after the RSF signed a political charter, establishing a parallel government with allied political and armed groups, primarily from the west of the country.
