The governments in Cairo and Khartoum have agreed to collaborate in supervising the reconstruction process in Sudan after years of war in the country.

According to Middle East Monitor, on February 24th, Badr Abdelatty, the Egyptian foreign minister, and his Sudanese counterpart, Ali Al-Sadiq Ali, announced their plan in a press conference: “We agreed to form a joint working team to focus on reconstruction in Sudan, and the Egyptian companies can significantly contribute to the plan to rebuild, given their experience,” said Abdelatty. “What has been destroyed in the devastating war, we hope to rebuild soon.”

The meeting involved a detailed review of all avenues to strengthen cooperation across each sector, emphasising enhanced cooperation within international forums to advance their shared interests. The evolving civil war in Sudan was also discussed, where the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity, independence, and territorial integrity were all especially emphasised. Egypt acknowledged the need to avoid interference in Sudan’s internal affairs.

Abdelatty said that Egyptian-Sudanese Joint Committee was instated after a pause of over seven years, reflecting a renewed political will to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

On February 16th, Egypt also extended their support to Gaza, as president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced he was preparing a comprehensive rebuilding plan that did not involve the relocation of the Palestinian people.
