The UN chief has expressed concerns over increasing violence from Israeli settlers in the West Bank and calls for annexation after Israel declared a widened military campaign in the occupied Palestinian territory, Asharq Al-Awsat via AFP reported on February 24th.

On February 23rd, Israel said its troops would stay for several months in refugee camps within the occupied West Bank. Tens and thousands of Palestinians who live there have reportedly faced displacement due to the growing military campaign.

Antonio Guterres told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva: “I am gravely concerned by the rising violence in the occupied West Bank by Israeli settlers and other violations, as well as calls for annexation.”
