Eight face death sentences over murder of Tunisian activist
Eight defendants have been sentenced to death on February 25th for the assassination of the leftist opposition figure Mohamed Brahmi in 2013, according to The Arab Weekly via AFP.
Local media have reported that the charges include “attempting to change the state’s nature” and “inciting armed conflict.” Reportedly, three of the eight defendants have also been given further death sentences for “deliberate participation in premeditated murder.”
A ninth person, who is a fugitive, was sentenced to prison for five years for “failing to report terrorist crimes to the authorities, according to reports.”
