French senate speaker visits Morocco to strengthen partnership

On February 25th talks focusing upon strengthening relations between France and Morocco were held in Laayoune.

According to MedaFrica, the speaker of the French Senate Gérard Larcher discussed the partnership with several local Moroccan officials.

Larcher is visiting the Moroccan city to head a parliamentary delegation, he was briefed about the progress and milestones achieved by Morocco in political, economic and social fields.

The all-round development in the region was also discussed, as France highlighted the importance of the Autonomy plan as the only possible solution to the artificial dispute around the Sahara.

Both countries considered ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across many areas including local management, decentralization, health, and water and waste management.

Larcher and his delegation oversaw the beginning of the construction of the OSUI Paul Pascon French school in Laayoune. He expressed Frances desire to promote and support their partnership with Morocco, particularly in the South of the country: “During my visit, we tackled economic development in the region, renewable energies, infrastructure, transport and water management with various local officials”, said Larcher.

A need for an expanded French consular service covering the whole of the Moroccan Sahara was especially highlighted .

After the talks, members of the French parliamentary delegation visited several educational and economic projects.

During February, France and Morocco also entered into partnership in an initiative set to assess the social and environmental impacts of AI.
