Israeli military chief warns Egypt could become a security threat
Herzi Halevi, Israel’s outgoing military chief, has said that Egypt could become a threat to security, the Middle East Eye reported on February 27th.
When asked about the capability of Cairo in an interveiw with Israel’s Channel 14 that was published on February 26th, Halevi said: “We are very concerned about this.”
Halevi added: “This is not at the top of our priorities. We have to give priority to our problems. Egypt has a large army. It has advanced weapons, advanced aircraft, advanced submarines, and missile ships.”
On January 21st, Halevi stepped down as chief of the general staff for Israel’s military over failures surrounding Hamas’ surprise attack on the south of Israel on October 7th 2023. Halevi’s resignation is effective from March 6th.
