Majority of UK citizens oppose Trump’s Gaza plan
A poll conducted by YouGov has found that there is great opposition from the UK public against Donald Trump’s Gaza plan which will see the forced resettlement of the Palestinian people, according to The New Arab on February 27th.
The poll found that 73% surveyed believed the UK government should oppose Trump’s forced resettlement.
On the other hand, only 9% of those surveyed supported the proposal whilst the remaining 18% were undecided.
The poll was conducted by Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) with the Council for Arab-British Understanding (CAABU).
Trump’s plan is to forcibly move the Palestinian people out of Gaza and into neighbouring countries such as Jordan and Egypt.
Once the Palestinian people have been removed, Trump wants to build ‘the Riviera of the Middle East’ which he recently took to social media to tease with an A.I generated video.
His plan has received widespread condemnation from charities, NGO’s and nation states.
Egypt and Spain recently rejected Trump’s plan for Gaza, as reported by Maghrebi on February 21st.
The UK has distanced itself from the U.S President’s Gaza plan however has not formally condemned it, instead reiterating its support for a ‘two state solution’ whilst simultaneously giving Trump ‘credit’ for helping to secure a cease-fire.
But many pro-Palestinian groups feel the UK should be doing more in the face of the U.S’ proposal for Gaza.
The Director of Advocacy and Campaigns at MAP, Rohan Talbot urged the UK to, ‘unequivocally condemn these proposal, and outline what steps it is taking to prevent ethnic cleansing and ensure Palestinians can return to and rebuild their homes.’
Keir Starmer has reiterated the fact that he believes the Palestinian people should be ‘allowed to rebuild, and we should be with them in that rebuild on the way to a two-state solution.’
However, despite the UK Prime Minister’s insistence, it does not appear that Donald Trump – or Israel – are listening as they intend to press forward with their plans for ‘redeveloping’ Gaza.
